Importance of Process in Creative Companies

Myth: Process kills Creativity. Creative firms are supposed to be boundless and free to freak-out the way they want to. They are not supposed to be leashed by rules and conventions. Doing this will sever their wings of imagination and they will be reduced to wriggling worms who can reach nowhere.

Fact: Process enhances Productivity. No doubt creative firms are supposed to be fluttering high and not squirming on the ground. But a random flight would again take them nowhere. Discipline is relevant to any profession no matter how uninhibited it might be. Even creative people are expected to meet deadlines, to allocate work among team members and to compromise their working preferences as per client expectations. None of these can be accomplished without chalking-out modus operandi to standardize the working processes. And no, this does not slaughter creativity in any form. Instead, it enhances the efficiency and productivity. Creativity is in the heart; process is in the mind. Productivity is obviously maximum when we put both our heart and mind to use.
